Anticipation: 20 minutes with nature

I have decided to sit outside for 20 minutes a day by myself. I will do this to reflect on my day, to get my day started, and/or to clear my mind and relax. This will be a great exercise to practice since finals are coming up and I have projects due at the end of the week. This will clear my mind and force me to calm down and relax. I am excited to see how this exercise will affect my life. I’m sure it will change me for the better. It will difficult to force myself to spend time sitting doing nothing when I know I have a lot of stuff to do. But I think after about 10 minutes outside I will begin to enjoy myself. By the end of this experiment I’m sure that I will enjoy this and continue doing this. I am excited to see what happens.

Standing 50 Feet Away, Looking Kind Of Spooked

It was like any other day at work. The sun was out, the water was cold, and my team was joking around as usual. We went scuba diving for artifacts from World War II because another excavation team had found small artifacts in the same area. My team was looking for something bigger, something more important, we just weren’t sure what. While I was swimming in the water, a small flash of light caught my eye. I tried looking for it but I could not trace where the light had come from. As I continue swimming the flash of light catches my eye again. I follow the light to the source. I thought it would be a small trinket because of the size of the flash, but I was utterly wrong. I did not find a trinket of any sort, I found a ship! The ship looked much more advanced than other ships from World War II. I call for backup and go inside. Right when I enter the ship I realize that the inside is vaguely lit by a blue light. I follow the light through the ship to the captain’s cabin. The light was very bright now, almost radiating through the door. I look through the cabin window to make sure it is safe. I enter the quarters and call in for back up. I look to my left and find the light searing through a glass container that was placed in. I look closer and discover that it was a glowing blue cube; it was nothing I had ever seen before. My backup arrives and I show them what I had found. They take the cube back to headquarters for more investigation. A few members from my team stayed to help search the rest of the room. On the right side of the room I see what appears to be a frozen person. I get closer to the object and verify that it is indeed a frozen female wearing and American flag jumpsuit. She was the most beautiful woman I had ever seen. Her features were exquisite in every way and her curves were some to brag about. I paused for a moment; she was so familiar. It was Wonder Woman! She had been my fantasy crush since I was a little boy. I couldn’t believe that I had found her. My team and I take her up for defrosting and further investigation. Later that evening when we were defrosting the body I realized that Wonder Woman’s skin had unusual pigment. Her body temperature was also strangely warm for a frozen body. I didn’t know what to think of it, so I just let it go. Little did I know that these unusual symptoms had a significant meaning. Wonder Woman would come back to life to continue her legend and protect the world from alien invasions that would use the blue Tesseract cube for evil.

Lady Brett Ashley

Lady Brett Ashley is a sexy, strong, independent woman. She is easy on the eyes and without fail catches the eye of men in the room. At first I didn’t mind Brett’s personality; I just thought she was strong and knew what she wanted. I thought she was forward and very ambitious. But as the story continued on, my reserved feelings about her became negative feelings. Jake and Brett had been going steady for a little while. She seemed to really like and confide in Jake about her problems. But we find out in the story that Brett, Mike, and Cohn had gone to San Sebastian together for three days. Jake knew nothing about this small rendezvous which is what made me realize how much of a player Brett is. I thought Jake was doing something good for her and giving her someone to rely on, but Jake and I were both fooled. Brett played Jake just like all of the other guys she has been with. Brett would be the one to steal someone’s boyfriend right from under their nose and the ditch them leaving them out to dry. She is one character that I could live without.

What is the meaning of life?

The characters in Ernest Hemingway’s The Sun Also Rises constantly struggle with the meaning of life. They find themselves partying every night, masking their true feelings with the boos. I think that the ultimate meaning of life is inner happiness and that the characters in the book are trying to find that inner happiness in the wrong place. One main character, Brett, is looking for her happiness in hooking up with guys and dumping them after a few weeks. She even claims to Jake that she has “been so miserable.” Brett is known as the “man-eater” in the book because although she wants to be happy, she is looking for happiness in all the wrong places. The other main characters are also faced with this similar obstacle. They are all young adults travelling around the world experiencing life one step at a time. Hemingway’s characters often remind me of a reality show because they party all the time and act like nothing else matters. Once the characters stop caring about where the next drink is coming from and starts paying attention to what is going on in their lives, only then they can start to find that inner happiness that they have been longing for.
